Issue Position: Roads and Infrastructure

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2018

We need a "once in a generation" investment in our roads, bridges, and water and sewer systems. The problem is huge, and the need is growing. But so far, our leaders have only been willing to give the wealthy tax cuts that Michigan can't afford and to put a band-aid on our infrastructure problems.

We must reinvest in a way that does not put too much of the burden on working and lower-income residents. A smart plan will create good-paying jobs and restore the prevailing wage.

A smart infrastructure plan will also protect the environment by reducing carbon emissions and by promoting innovations in green energy production and use. Climate change causes significant damage to our infrastructure, so this reality must be factored in when allocating resources.

Increasing access to high-speed broadband internet for rural areas must be part of a comprehensive infrastructure plan.
